The Serenity Project: Healing Through Horses
This past month, Cam had the opportunity to bring a client to The Serenity Project for an equine therapy session. The experience was a powerful reminder of how horses can meet people exactly where they are in their recovery journey, offering connection without words.
Equine therapy works by harnessing the horse’s natural sensitivity. Horses are highly attuned to human energy and emotion, often reflecting back what a person is carrying inside. In this way, they act as living mirrors, helping participants gain awareness of their inner world.
Horses also naturally co-regulate with those around them. Their steady heart rhythms can sync with a participant’s, creating a sense of calm and grounded presence. For people navigating trauma or recovery, this can be an invaluable reset—a chance to feel centered, safe, and in tune with themselves.
At The Serenity Project, these moments of reflection and regulation unfold in a supportive environment, guided by skilled facilitators. The horses become partners in healing, helping participants discover balance, trust, and renewal. Equine therapy can be a great mindfulness tool to add to your recovery toolbox!
