  • Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a global fellowship of individuals who share a common goal of achieving and maintaining sobriety. Founded in 1935, AA employs a 12-step program that emphasizes personal responsibility, peer support, and a belief in a higher power to overcome alcohol addiction. Meetings are held regularly, providing a safe and judgment-free environment for members to share their experiences, seek guidance, and support one another in their recovery journey.

Al-Anon Family Groups

A mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking.

  • Al‑Anon is a mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. By sharing common experiences and applying the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive changes to their individual situations, whether or not the alcoholic admits the existence of a drinking problem or seeks help.

CT Support Group

An educational hub to empower teens and young adults in their search for emotional and mental health, understanding their options and learning how to navigate the behavioral health system

  • Including:

    A Discord Server where young people in CT can get connections to resources and support around the state, build their community, and directly access peer support. (Discord is a free, popular platform for young people today, allowing text, voice, and video chat.)

    Format includes:

    -Getting started (where to begin)

    -What are my options for feeling better?

    -Who can help me?

    -How do I access services?

    -What should I expect?

    -How can I manage on my own?

    -Various videos of young adults and teens sharing about their mental health struggles.

  • The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve.

Kids in Crisis

Emergency shelter, crisis counseling, and community education programs for children of all ages and families facing crisis.

  • Primarily serving the areas of Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Newtown, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Stamford, Weston, Westport, Wilton, and the Greater Bridgeport area, Kids In Crisis services are also available to anyone in Connecticut.

    We have the only emergency shelter for kids in the state that:

    • Serves newborns to 18-year-olds

    • Accepts children referred by concerned community members

    • Accepts children of any gender or gender identity

    • Has an onsite Health Clinic

Kids in Crisis - Teen Talk

A program placing Master’s-level mental health counselors in select Fairfield County middle and high schools.

  • The specially trained, compassionate counselors identify and help students navigate difficult personal, family, and school-related issues such as:

    • Anxiety

    • Depression

    • Gender/sexual identity

    • Risk of harm to self or others

    • Family conflict

    • Peer conflict

    • School risk

    • School avoidance

    • Disruptive behavior

    • Academic concerns

    • Trauma, grief, loss

    • Substance use

Liberation Programs

Treatment and prevention services for substance use and mental health disorders with a goal of helping individuals and families overcome addiction in order to restore their lives and ultimately strengthen our communities.

  • Liberation Programs is one of Fairfield County’s leading behavioral health organizations specializing in treatment for all types of substance use disorders including alcohol, opiates, depressants, and stimulants. Our goal is to help individuals and families overcome addiction to restore their lives and ultimately strengthen our communities. Liberation provides services for adults, youth, and families through two inpatient treatment programs, outpatient and intensive outpatient services, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), health education for older adults and people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses, treatment and resources for adolescents and their families, education and prevention efforts in the community and schools, mobile outreach and harm reduction services, and permanent supportive housing for families. In operation since 1971, the agency has sites in Bridgeport, Greenwich, Norwalk, Stamford, and Westport and serve more than 2,000 each year.

Move To Heal - Crossfit Westport

A non-profit program that holds free weekly workouts & group support meetings, open to anyone facing mental health issues, substance use disorders, grief, PTSD, or any life trauma.

  • If you are looking for healing and community, you are welcome at Move To Heal. The age requirement is 18+, or 15+ with a guardian present.

    The weekly meeting starts with a 30-minute workout designed so it can be modified for any fitness level. The workout is not required to participate in the meeting, but it is highly encouraged.

    Immediately following the workout, there is a one-hour group support meeting focused on that week’s topic.

    Once you attend two meetings, you will be qualified for free services:

    • individual therapy 2x a month

    • Free gym membership (subsidized at some locations)

    • Access to our Nutrition Program via zoom. 

      *Due to high demand, there is a waitlist for these services at some locations.

The New Canaan Parent Support Group

A local support group that hosts weekly meetings, monthly Pathway Sessions on recovery-related topics, and the Annual Community Addiction Awareness Vigil in downtown New Canaan, CT.

  • The New Canaan Parent Support Group was founded by Paul Reinhardt in tribute to his son Evan, who died of a drug overdose in 2015. The group hosts Thursday, 7pm parent support meetings at a local church, monthly Pathway Sessions on recovery-related topics, and the Annual Community Addiction Awareness Vigil in downtown New Canaan. NFR Young Adult Recovery Support Group

A weekly informal recovery support group for young adults every Friday night between 7-8pm at Silver Hill Hospital in the Martin Center (New Canaan, CT). Flyer Here.

  • Join us every Friday night between 7-8pm at Silver Hill Hospital in the Martin Center for an informal recovery group led by an NFR facilitator. The purpose of the group is to allow young adults in the community to connect with others of similar age and stages in life. The group is not 12-step (AA/NA) and is a space for people to connect and discuss common experiences that occur for young adults in recovery.

Resources to Recover

A free resource to help people with behavioral health concerns connect with expert treatment and services.

  • Rtor.org is a free service of Laurel House, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization providing programs and supportive services to adults with mental health disorders in Stamford, CT. Laurel House has been in operation since 1984. It launched rtor.org in 2014 when President and CEO Linda Autore and Vice President Jay Boll noticed a gap in the mental health care system. Family members often called them directly for help locating support for loved ones with complicated mental health needs, many living outside of our service area. They realized that families were desperate for information about their loved ones’ conditions and resources for help in their communities.
